Thin Clients

A thin client is a network computer that doesn’t contain a hard drive and therefore relies on a connected server to retrieve data and run programs. Thin clients are basically low cost, stripped back PCs that are devoid of all unnecessary features, expansion cards/slots and attached peripherals. Think clients rely on the server to handle most of their data processing.

Thin clients make network management simpler because there is no locally installed software to worry about on each machine. Any software updates or glitches are dealt with on the central server. The use of thin clients is expected to increase as SaaS gains popularity and some people have predicted that they will one day outstrip desktop PCs in educational and government organisations.
